Basic Structure : Double Tube Rheostats are either connected in parallel or in series These Rheostats are fitted with four pairs of terminals, one at the slider, For using it in series (twice the resistance) the clamp is removed Basic Structure :Double Tube Rheostats are either connected in parallel or in series as shown in the illustration above.These Rheostats are fitted with four pairs of terminals, one at the slider, one at one end of the tubes(both tubes are short-circuited) and two at the other end of the tubes with a movable conductor. Thus these types of Rheostats can be used in parallel giving half the resistance than the single tube Rheostats, but twice the resistance by connecting the single terminal at the base and terminal at the slider. For using it in series(twice the resistance) the clamp is removed from the two terminals at the base. These two terminals are then used and variation can be taken by sliding the contact.
